I had no idea applesauce was SO easy to make and, that making it from scratch really makes a difference in the taste! It’s simple and delicious! (Where was this recipe when I had 3 bushels of apples rotting on my counter this past fall???) I can promise you that after making your own applesauce just once, you too will see that there is never a reason to buy another jar of that fake, sugar laden, kind ever again!
Ingredients:
- 5-6 apples, such as Macintosh, Gala and Braeburn (I like to add in a Granny Smith to add some tartness)
- 1/4 fresh lemon juice (from 2 lemons)
- 1 cup water
- Dash or two of cinnamon
Directions:
- Peel, core and slice apples
- In a large saucepan, bring apples, lemon juice and water to a boil over high heat. Sprinkle in cinnamon.
- Reduce to a simmer until apples are very soft, ~25 – 30 minutes
- Mash with a potato masher or whirl it up in a food processor until desired consistency (I chose potato masher for less clean up, and I like small chunks in my applesauce)
- Let cool, then transfer the applesauce to airtight containers
Be Healthy & Enjoy!
